Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center
Step back in time while in the "Horse Capital of the World," with a visit to one of Lexington's cultural icons. The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, located in downtown Lexington, was the place to be, from 1948 to 1963. This historical center started out as a movie theater and quickly became the place for all entertainment. This wonderful center hosted a variety of events including, fashion shows, vaudeville theatre acts, concerts, pageants and live Jazz, R&B and Soul music.
Throughout the years, theatre patrons listened to Count Basie, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Mercer Ellington, Wynonie Harris and Bill Brown perform on stage.
