Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in western Kentucky, is the largest inland peninsula in the country, encompassing 170,000 acres. Lake Barkley borders the eastern side of the area and Kentucky Lake borders the western side. President John F. Kennedy designated it a national recreation area in 1963.

The area boasts of over 200 miles of trails. Whether you hike, horseback ride, mountain bike or ATV, there are plenty of trails for doing it all. Visitors also enjoy a day of fishing, swimming or hunting in this beautiful recreation area. A must-see stop in the forest is the The Homeplace, a 1850 working farm. Rest comfortably at the Best Western in Murray, while exploring the Bluegrass State.
