A Getaway on Boone's Two-Million Acres

Explore this stunning national forest on horseback. Founded in 1937, the Daniel Boone National Forest is nestled in northern Kentucky on two million acres. Of course being a forest in Kentucky, horses roam the trails of the wilderness as much as humans do.

The Daniel Boone National Forest is full of trails, ranger districts and horse camps like the White Sulphur Horse Camp and the Barren Fork Horse Camp. Head to the Cumberland Ranger District for more than 100 miles of trail, or check out the White Sulphur Horse Camp for more fun on horseback. Journey down the five-mile Buck Creek Trail, or discover the beauty of the three-mile Cross Over Trail. Then make your way to the Stearns Ranger District for the Arabian Loop Trail – a four-mile trail passing a scenic overlook – and the three-mile North Flat Rock Trail. The Daniel Boone National Forest is also home to the legendary 269-mile Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, sections of which are open to horseback riding.
