Visiting Western Kentucky
A summer visit to western Kentucky can mean all sorts of outdoor fun amid some of the most idyllic scenery America has to offer. This is the season for fishing, golfing, hiking, and more in places like Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area, and communities from Bowling Green to Paducah kick it up a notch, with a variety of special events, festivals, and family-friendly fun in store.
Now’s the time to route your exploration of western Kentucky’s lush and diverse landscape. Head out on a scenic summer driving tour to encounter countless roadside attractions while exploring day trip destinations like Murray, Hopkinsville, and Central City.
Situated on the banks of the Ohio River – on Kentucky’s western border – Paducah is home to a few one-of-a-kind attractions of its own. The National Quilt Museum is a must-see for lovers of fine art and Americana alike. And for thrills, there’s the Paducah International Raceway, where the 2016 season gets underway in April and goes through October.
Bowling Green visitors don’t have to drive all the way to Louisville to see a few sluggers. The Bowling Green Hot Rods host MiLB action at Bowling Green Ballpark a few times a week through the first week of September. Check the schedule to be a part of special promotional nights like Kiermaier BobbleGlove Night, April 30th, and Bootleggers Night, July 16.
Bowling Green Ballpark is also the host of the 2016 PickAxe Summerfest. Held June 18th, the all-day musical extravaganza features a headlining performance by pop provocateur Kesha.
Music is in the air over nearby Greenville as well. From June 25th through August 6th, the 2016 Saturdays on the Square concert series brings a variety of performers to the downtown area. Don’t miss the 2nd Street Big Band and Laser Light Show on the Fourth of July – it’s a swinging celebration of our nation’s independence.
